The Freshka mascots — character design and art direction by Iaorana Motion.
Freshka wanted mascots. We drew them a family: Mama Mona, Tonton Totora, Vanira and Mister Rio.
The real work wasn’t in the smiles. A good mascot is someone you recognise on sight. The names alone tell you who they are: every family has a Mama, and a Tonton — an uncle — who tells the stories. We gave them that place: a crew people feel like they already know.
Meet the crew
Mama Mona — the grandmother with more energy than the whole family put together: first to start the party, last to go to bed.
Tonton Totora — the strong one who carries the cooler in one hand and lands his favourite joke for the hundredth time (and it still works).
Vanira — young and pure class, immaculate even on a bread run.
Mister Rio — the surfer cousin who turns up barefoot, board under one arm, late and unbothered — and somehow nobody can stay mad at him.
At home, inside the Heiva
We staged them at home on different scenes: little stories posted week after week on Facebook. Bit by bit, people stopped waiting for an ad. They were waiting for the crew’s next appearance.
That’s what a mascot is really for. Mama Mona and the others give Freshka a family — something people get attached to, long after this month’s flavour is gone.
